Rainscreen façade systems are proprietary, resulting in a wide variation of possible system build-ups, material combinations and mechanisms that are used to fix and support the external cladding to the wall structure. Fixings and supports penetrating the insulation through to the structure form point thermal bridges. The effect on the thermal performance of the overall façade system can be significant. Whilst the use of thermal isolators can assist inmitigating the impact of thermal bridging, the type and placement of fixings and supports can exacerbate heat flow through the façade assembly affecting the U-value.
